Mom Power

by Alexis Ahrens

There is something about creating a human life where there wasn’t one before that makes me believe I’m capable of anything.  I know my husband had an important part to play in this miracle, but there is no denying that I was the one accomplishing the impossible the day my son was born.  Perhaps this is one reason so many mothers are launching their own businesses.  The power of birth can carry over into our creative and work lives and help us fuel our dreams.

Since giving birth to my son 16 months ago, I’ve also given birth to a publishing company, a published book, a blog, and an entrepreneurial mothers support group.  Incubating a baby also incubated some great ideas, and as he’s grown, so have my projects.

My connection with other creative mothers has been pivotal in maintaining the momentum I need to keep these projects moving forward.  I’ll be forever grateful to the friend who referred me to www.momstown.com.  The forum on this site is filled with conscious, smart, creative women who are supporting one another to live their dreams.  From the isolation of new motherhood, I was able to connect virtually with women from all over the world who understood the challenges of pursuing their passions and were doing it anyway.  There was such power in this connection.  Here, I found enthusiastic support for my ideas, great resources for my business, and dear friends, all from my laptop, and mostly very late at night.

This forum motivated me to start La Mesa MomsTown, a local gathering of friendly entrepreneurial mothers who share ideas, inspiration, resources, and support.  The group began in January and meets monthly.  We’re pairing the power of motherhood with the power of connection. Sounds like success to me.
