Shop Resale and Save Money

A SDBM Member sent me this article from the Union Tribune.  The idea of renting, recycling, and reusing (anything "re") is very appealing to families when it comes to saving money, energy, and time.   Heck, back in the day, it seemed that our folks were a little more prone than we are today to really juice the life out of "hand-me-downs". 

Today,  we have various ways to replenish Johnny's toy box and closet than, perhaps, past generations.  More than ever before, taking advantage of consignment stores, thrift store boutiques, garage sales, and resale events, has become less taboo.  One of the biggest reasons that resale has come into vogue is because the newfound treasures can really be real quality pickin's.  If you have tapped into the new-and-improved world of resale, you know that we are talking well preserved, clean, good quality, and often high-end merchandise, often seldom used or even never (with tags, and all) worn or opened.  With resale, we can take advantage of selling or buying these "gently worn/used" garments, toys, etc. and it feels good on many accounts (no pun intended).

Taking great care of these great finds has really paid off for my family!  We keep the small pieces to toys/games in small containers, and keep the kids' belongings organized and categorized.   In our household, when the shelf life of these items has expired, if we do not hand them over to friends or family we give them a quick cleaning and bag them for their new lives at a resale event or a resale shop.  We donate the misfits, of course, but every penny counts...and boy, can the extra effort be profitable!
