Family Fun at the Del Mar Racetrack

The Del Mar Racetrack, more than ever, is kid and family-friendly.  In 1937 Bing Crosby and a bunch of his Hollywood buddies (among them Pat O’Brien, Oliver Hardy and Gary Cooper) ”hatched the idea for a horse palace by the ocean where you could play all day, party all night, and leave the cares of the world behind“ (DelMarScene.com).  Well, years later the dream is still growing, and the party is getting started now!  Not only is there something for everyone at the races, but there are also great perks that spell F-R-E-E!  From free attractions, concerts, admission, to giveaways, the Del Mar Racetrack is bound to provide fun-goers affordable fun and entertainment on top of the thrill of the races!  Kids have free admission every day and also every weekend is a Family Fun Weekend.  A day at the track is truly fun for all! Enjoy pony rides, face painters, inflatable games/rides, magic shows and so much more!

SDBM Tips

  • Entrance to Del Mar for all the racing fun can cost as little as $3 if you are a member of the Diamond Club. It’s FREE!  You can take your own food, drink and chair and set up shop in front of the grandstand or in the Infield. You can complement that with $3 superfecta bets and enjoy adrenaline pumping excitement during the races.
  • Be sure to check out Daybreak at Del Mar each Saturday and Sunday during racing season. If you have never checked it out, do it. Arrive between 7:30am and 9:30am for a breakfast trackside at the Clubhouse Terrace Restaurant overlooking the stretch and watch the magnificent horses go through their daily morning work-outs. For $10.95, you get a simple buffet with coffee, juice or tea. Kids are $7.95. The experience: priceless.
  • Take a backpack that is stocked as if you were to be going to the beach or a picnic.  Kids will need to stay hydrated and lathered with sunscreen, even if the sun isn’t bright!
