Q: "Some college friends are coming into town. I want to take them out somewhere, but I can’t afford to blow the budget. Any ideas?"
~ Heather Minchkin, Spring Valley
A: For five years or so Wine Steals in Hillcrest has been a great and very inexpensive way to hang out with friends. It quickly, if not immediately, became an instant success. It has a great mix of people, casual atmosphere and not the typical bar scene. You and your friends might really enjoy the Saturday wine tastings from 4-6:30pm. For $10.00 per person, everyone can grab a glass and join in on the 25 wine tastings. Stop in Monday-Friday from 4-6pm for happy hour and enjoy a $3 glass of select wines. They have many other special events at all locations, too. You should also try the location in Pt. Loma at Liberty Station near Rosecrans and Lytton. Pt. Loma is a neat location in a historic building and it offers a different crowd, but the same casual fun as Hillcrest. For those who golf, Wine Steals-Pt. Loma is on the Sail Ho golf course and has outdoor seating. Wine Steals is opening soon in Cardiff at the foot of Birmingham. We can't wait to check out the Cardiff location. All locations have delicious pizzas and other food items. It isn’t a place that you have to be a connoisseur; in fact they really cater to the casual wine enthusiast. Wine Steals is about enjoying wine and friends.
