We are local professionals who recently became parents and, like many of you, are trying to balance what life can offer with our everyday responsibilities. We decided to create Friends With Class as a catalog of classes and events that would offer a fun way to meet new people and learn something new. What makes us unique is not only the careful selection of activities offered in the catalog, but also the opportunity for those with genuine passion and expertise to create classes with us.
We believe in having fun and meeting new people through tailored classes and community events that will help us share and enjoy valuable time together. Along with our friends, we are creating custom classes that are tailored to be fun while we learn something of value or give back to the community. And of course, we also want each class to be an opportunity for meeting even more like-minded friends!
Some of the classes take place at people's homes and others are existing classes that we have experienced and recommend or that friends recommend we take. Our classes range from "Photography With Your Toddler", to a cooking class at our friend's amazing remodeled kitchen with Chef Marcela from Martha Stewart's Apprentice (see the video), to wine tasting at Napa Valley Grille, seminars on topics like "Working From Home", free community activities, and always non-profit events with organizations we know personally like Habitat for Humanity. (I was a member of their Board of Directors for 7 years.)
The first class that we held at our home sold out in just a few days (it actually oversold, as one mom decided last minute to bring her husband after placing him on the waitlist online -- and we were able to accommodate him). The class took place Saturday, October 20th, 2007, and was a great success! We were so excited for our future classes... and then disaster struck.
We were evacuated from our Rancho Bernardo home at 4 am Monday and by afternoon as we watched other homes on our street burn on live TV we were not even sure we would have a home to go back to, much less to host future classes. But our home was spared from the fires and we dedicated a portion of the website to assist our neighbors in need. Please visit www.friendswithclass.com to join us in helping these families, sign up for a great class or event, or let us know of a class you can recommend or would like to teach yourself! Creating Friends With Class has been such a wonderful experience, and meeting people like Stacey from the amazing San Diego Bargain Mama.com and so many other talented and passionate people has been the best part!
Now, if I only could convince Stacey from San Diego Bargain Mama to teach a class on saving money in San Diego... ;)
