Take the Grocery Store by Storm – A Bargain of a Class!
SDBM has teamed with Friends With Class to deliver a series of classes designed to teach you how to make the most of your dollar. And because we all spend a large portion of our budget at the grocery store, our first class in this series features the fun and proven grocery savings method developed by Lisa Leete of Thrifty Kitchen.
This class itself is a bargain that you can't pass up! The $25 class fee includes a three-month subscription to Thrifty Kitchen (a $30 value) and a take-home goodie bag with more than $25 of grocery coupons.
Thrifty Kitchen subscribers receive weekly meal plans, recipes and a shopping list based on what is ON SALE at the grocery store!
Class will be held Tuesday, September 23 starting at the 4S Ranch Panera (10430 Craftsman Way - San Diego 92127), where we will hear from Lisa how the process works, and we will then walk over to Ralphs where she will demonstrate how to put the process into action and rack in the savings.
Whether you just want an overview of how to use coupons from time to time, or want to learn the full process to cut your grocery bill each week, this class is for you!
This class has limited space, so sign up today! See you there!

Friends With Class Charity Event Helps Children in Africa
Our long-time friend, Kathryn, created WalkTheirWalk last year: a walk-a-thon that brought over 200 walkers together and raised more than $27,000 to make schools and fresh water accessible for all children living in Zambia.
In the 15+ years that we've known her, she never ceases to amaze us. So we were not surprised that after a trip to Zambia, Africa she was inspired to do something to help improve the quality of life for children in the village that she visited...
Please mark Saturday, September 13, 2008 on your calendar and click here to sign up with the Friends With Class walking group.

Kudos to Vertical Printing Graphics – As Seen on an MSN Message Board!
Happening upon this message on a message board made my day: ”Just this week Laura at Vertical Printing Graphics put together a 'no peanuts' calling card for my peanut/nut allergic daughter. I plan to distribute the cards to the parents/kids in her first grade class, lunch monitors and other adults in the activities she participates in. Usually I have a flyer type medical alert for my daughter, but a calling card is easier to carry and distribute. Laura even overnighted the finished cards to me so I would have them before school starts next week. A big thank you to SDBM for letting me know about Vertical Printing and for providing the $10 discount.“

San Diego Bargain Mama's Book Review
It’s Time to Call 911- What to do in an Emergency
2007 Smart Kids Publishing- Published by Penton Overseas, Inc.

Little Red Book Published in Carlsbad Helps Save Lives!
It’s almost that time of year again when we folks will be visiting the firehouses with our kids and going over the steps to take in case emergencies were to ever occur. Once again, we will review with them the process of dialing 911, reciting our addresses, and practicing what we are to do and say if the supervising adult were not able to take charge. It’s Time to Call 911 – A Children’s Book About Emergencies, published by Penton Overseas, Inc. (Carlsbad), is a hands-on book made for preschoolers that helps teach the important procedure of dialing 911 in emergency. What better a way than having a phone-shaped book with a keypad to practice on? Kids are reassured by the siren and ”Help is on its way!“ audio that they have dialed correctly after they respond to a variety of accidents. The book includes a ”Do you Know Your Address?“ chart and comes with replaceable batteries.
This book has already saved one life as we know it. A four-year-old boy, Tony Sharpe, received it as a gift from his grandmother and read it frequently with his parents. When his mother, Courtenay Sharpe, blacked out during a gall bladder attack, little Tony’s practicing paid off when he was able to call 911 and save her life! Click here for the Good Morning America story of a boy who saved his mom’s life, thanks to a little red book!

Stay-at-home Mothers Get Creative in Economic Downturn, by Jocelyn Noveck
The San Diego Union Tribune has an interesting article showing the adaptations stay-at-home moms make to make it work. "…Now, with gas topping $4 a gallon, everyone's thinking twice", she says. "If you're a stay-at-home mother, you'd better have a darned good reason to go somewhere. You wonder, where can I stop by on my way home from another errand?..."
